Explosions fell from the sky very often in modern history. It brought panic and fear with it, except to those who predicted such destruction years earlier. Those people were smart enough to create underground bunkers, tiny houses of sorts that were located near places with running water and tended to be powered by simplistic and environmental energy sources.
After the carnage ceased, most bunkers became beacons of luxury. People were paid, bartered, or shot out of their homes. They became cesspools for the most part, even storage devices for human... meat.
